Small FARMHOUSE REMODEL & RENOVATION

I’m so excited to share the details about our small southern farmhouse remodel and renovation in this farmhouse blog post!

FARMHOUSE REMODEL & RENOVATION: THE BACKSTORY

Richard and I moved in a roughly 10yrs ago right before we got married. Richard's dream to live on beautiful land. We immediately  purchased this sweet little farmhouse truthfully because of the land. The home didn't look like much of anything with its previous remodel.
The house itself was old 1930's and outdated, but we decided to move in “as-is” to give ourself a bit of time to make renovation plans. Well, I got pregnant with our big boy Carter within a few yrs of being married, so we needed to hold off on the whole farmhouse remodel a bit.  Well... shortly after that time slipped away and we were pregnant with sweet Christian.
By the time Christian was 3 we decided, now was the time!  NO MORE holding off.

Day 1

Well, its day 1 and Jon Hart's Crew have been working hard at taking off the popcorn ceiling and tearing down these walls. In for a surprise indeed! We knew this was a special home and roughly built in or prior to the 1930's. What we knew was the floors were very old wood tongue and groove. But could we be keep them? Thats the next big question.
We did not know that the walls and ceiling were tongue and groove heart pine as well.  Not really knowing the back story of this adorable farmhouse... we had no idea the shape it was truly in.

As you can see the ply wood covered up all the damaged 100+ yr old flooring and there was just more than half of it gone so.... WITH a very heavy heart... we couldn't save the floors.... but we are still getting real wood floors <3 as these definitely had to be completely replaced.  BUT....... WE ARE KEEPING THE ENTRY WAY FLOORS!!!!!
AHHHH Can I Just share one more thing with y'all! When we bought this home we found a set of OLD OLD French doors my husband refinished for our bedroom... which we will show soon... hahaha
AND we had an inclination where it may have been from in the house... but now WE REALLY KNOW!!!

Week 2

Its been a crazy ride so far! The actual tongue and groove floor that runs through out the house has more than 50%  of work needed to get it restored and fixed... SO it looks like with our small budget we will get wood floors instead of trying to hunt down these beauties to replace and fix... :(  SAD but tough decision. The old floors themselves in our home were actually the only floor down... so literally the actual subfloor itself hahaha.... WOW ...

HELLO gorgeous FARM HOUSE DOOR!

My husband is amazing!!! When we bought his home we had come across some gems that sat inside and this is one of them... a 100yr old door that was a piece of history with this home. He restored it and we are using it as the pantry door!

You've got this! It is so worth it! We had a house built in 1859 and remodeled it. It is trying, exciting, exhausting and worth it all! Enjoy the small finds along the way and save what you can and move on with what you can't save! Take lots of before and after photos and look back on them often so you are reminded how far you have come!
